Yo Yo Ma

by Jonah Lehrer and his book Imagine:

You must be prepared to fail to be creative. Yo Yo Ma, the famous violinist, said, “Perfection is not very communicative…if you are worried about not making any mistakes, then you will communicate nothing…I welcome the first mistake as then I can shrug it off…and turn off that part of the mind that judges everything…it’s when I am least conscious of what I’m doing, when I’m just lost in the emotion of the music, then I’m performing at my best.”

Perfection is not communicative

Communicating with affection

my action invites to collection

in a fraction of my imperfection

I communicate a space for your reaction

to slip into a section of reflection

building a connection

because in my imperfection

I offer a bit of me to you

the poems by Edna St. Vincent Millay and her mother Cora

Daughter is off to Paris

Longing, lusting for life

You fall out off my chest

Into my hand holdyounots

In the blossom of your life

to Paris you strive

chest out into the wind

rain from the back

you leave your old mother Kind

wind and rain onto the new soil

the world you see in front is color

your mom in tears and

fear's view is black
